On September 3, 2024, selected Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) employees gathered at the New Conference Room, BuCor Headquarters, for an enlightening lecture by Fr. Albert Alejo, SJ, also known as Paring Bert.
Paring Bert, a renowned Jesuit priest and advocate for social justice, delivered a powerful message emphasizing the importance of deeper understanding and connection among BuCor officials and staff. He highlighted that by getting to know one another better and appreciating the diversity within the BuCor community, members can enhance their ability to perform their duties more effectively, with greater transparency and stability.
The theme of the talk, "Tao po! Tuloy! Halina sa Loob ng Kapwa Tao!" encapsulated the invitation to engage more authentically and meaningfully with one another. Paring Bert encouraged the audience to reflect on their roles not just as individuals within an institution but as integral parts of a broader community with shared goals and responsibilities.
He expressed hope that this deeper sense of unity would lead to actions that are beneficial not only within the BuCor community but also extend to the larger prison community they serve. By fostering trust and integrity, BuCor can work towards recovering its reputation and building a more harmonious and effective environment.
